What’s your favorite thing about being a peer advisor?

I’ve always had a strong passion for helping others and I love that I am able to incorporate it into my job on a daily basis.

How did you decide your major/career path?

I’ve always been interested in the healthcare system since I was little. One of my family members growing up suffered from breast cancer and was a non-English speaker, so I would often get pulled out of school to accompany them and help with translating at a very young age. I noticed that there was a lack of representation for Latine healthcare workers and decided to give back to my community by being that representation that my family and I didn’t see when I was growing up.

What is the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Your grades are not a reflection of your ability or intelligence.

What’s a career resource at SuccessWorks that you wish you learned about sooner?

The career closet is such a beneficial resource! In my earlier college semesters, I would sometimes have to attend events or meetings that were business casual, and since I didn’t own any of those clothes and didn’t have the funds to afford them at the time, it would often become difficult for me. I wish I had known about the career closet because it would’ve been a very helpful resource during those semesters.
