Small Group Sessions on November 15:

More United Than Divided: A Discussion on Growing Political Partisanship in the US

November 15  /  12:00pm – 1:00pm
Memorial Library Room 126

FixUS is a convener of the growing movement of Americans who share a deep concern about the polarizing division threatening our nation’s future. We provide a community for reformers, scholars, and other politically homeless Americans to work with each other to better understand and address the division, distrust, and dysfunction in our democracy. Through a number of research projects, public engagement efforts and partnerships, we seek to bring attention and visibility to these issues, build support for necessary changes, and ultimately help to regain a sense of shared aspirations, values, and a belief that there is more that unites us than divides us. Join Mike Murphy, Chief of Staff at the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget and Director of FixUS, for this small group session.

Rising National Debt: Why It Matters and What We Can Do

November 15  /  2:00pm – 3:00pm
Memorial Library Room 126

Join Mike Murphy, Chief of Staff at the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget and Director of FixUS, for an interactive simulation and discussion on why the debt matters, how we got here, and what we can do to turn things around. Mike Murphy will lead students and faculty through a hands-on Debt Fixer exercise where students can make fiscal cuts, find savings, and increase spending in the federal budget. Can you fund the programs you want, and pay for tax cuts, all while balancing the national budget? Join us and find out!
