What’s your favorite thing about being a peer advisor?

My favorite aspect of being a peer advisor is working with students towards their career goals. Everyone comes from a different background and has different levels of experience, and it is really amazing to me to see students’ from all sorts of backgrounds working hard to take the next steps toward where they want to be—I’m just glad I can be a part of that process for them.

How did you decide your major/career path?

I always knew that I wanted to be a lawyer. I watched Perry Mason with my mom when I was young and thought Raymond Burr was the coolest guy.

What is the best career advice you’ve ever received?

You can’t get the job if you don’t apply.

What’s a career resource at SuccessWorks that you wish you learned about sooner?

SuccessWorks has some really helpful resources on resume building. More specifically, I like to point out to students the PDFs on Writing Effective Bullet Points and Power Verbs. Sometimes it’s hard to put into words what we think of as simple tasks. These two documents can help give ideas on how to restructure our roles into effective bullet points.
